Ronnie Herel
Ronnie
Herel is a true ambassador of urban music so it was no surprise when
Radio 1’s sister station BBC 1Xtra, snapped him up as one
of their first dj signings. Currently presenting the specialist slot
Uptown Anthems, Mondays 7-10pm, Ronnie is truly enjoying playing his
mix of urban music to a national audience and is one of the most listened
to DJ’s via the Radio 1 and 1Xtra websites. He is also Radio 1’s
first choice to deputise for Trevor Nelson.
He has more than paid his dues…his roots in the R n B club scene date back to 1989 with his first dj promotion The Kat Club at Bar Rhumba (London). Moving on from this, Ronnie established himself further with two impressive London residencies – Club Yo Yo and FUNK with Trevor Nelson at Sound. He also joined Trevor at the MTV Lick parties in Ayia Napa and Leeds and on the Radio 1 Stage at Notting Hill Carnival. All this led to Ronnie being voted Best Club DJ by readers of Blues & Soul Magazine in 2000.
At the moment, you can catch Ronnie at one of his residencies in the UK, Fresh n Funky, Rouge in London, Love Dough in Leeds and Newcastle, Smoove at Ministry of Sound, Kinda Funky – Torquay and the Southport Weekenders. Alternatively you can catch him djing in Ayia Napa, Corfu and Ibiza. Last summer saw him supporting the Brand New Heavies on their tour dates at The Jazz Café and scratching on their latest single, while this year he has been down at The Jazz Café supporting new talent such as Amp Fiddler.
Not content with just playing the music, Ronnie’s skills also include production and remixing work, with his first ever record in 1991 ‘Quartz – Its too Late’ hitting the U.K national charts at No 8. Ronnie is also the co-director of Uptown Records, the UK’s premiere R&B record shop. For the past 10 years, Ronnie has supplied records to an impressive clientele including Danny Rampling, Pete Tong, Steve Sutherland and just about any other big players you can think of on the R&B circuit.
